Program
and Agency Information
Descriptions of innovative programs in the U.S. are included in the clearinghouse,
with a focus on special programs for refugee youth and children,
as well as programs on refugee parenting or family issues.
These can be searched and sorted by state, population served,
and other aspects, in order to locate programs of interest.
Each month a different program is featured on our home page.
View a PDF of our template for gathering program
descriptions and organizational
information, or submit
your program information to BRYCS using a web-accessible
form. Sharing such information can draw attention to the service
needs of refugee youth and children, help other providers
develop or fine-tune programs, and thus assist additional
refugee families.
Over
time, the clearinghouse will grow to include a wide range
of programs. Possible examples include: after-school and school
liaison programs, parent support programs, child and family
advocacy programs, cultural reinforcement programs for refugee
youth and families, gang prevention activities for at-risk
youth, childcare arrangements, cultural competency training,
multicultural counseling, trauma treatment, and parent-teen
conflict resolution programs.
Resources
The
clearinghouse also includes resources from a variety of professional
disciplines, including: reports, articles, assessment tools,
curricula, professional standards, books, geographic materials,
videos, websites, conference papers, legislative or regulatory
materials, creative works, dissertations, serials, directories
and other useful items.
To
send ideas and/or resources to the BRYCS clearinghouse review
team, use our resource
submission form.
We
collect information on a range of topics, including: the needs
of refugee youth and children, refugee family issues, refugee
cultures and experiences, the child welfare system and refugee
families, parenting, acculturation, cultural competency of
service providers, social service integration, and other issues
relevant to refugee families.
In
order to support inter-agency understanding and linkages,
the clearinghouse includes basic information on some of the
service systems that work with refugee families, such as resettlement
and child welfare, in addition to resources on the above topics.
Resources
on refugees in other countries of resettlement, and those
addressing other newcomers to the United States, appear if
they contain useful content or ideas for service providers
in the U.S.
Original
BRYCS Materials
The
clearinghouse contains original BRYCS materials on cross-service
training between local agencies, as well as guardianship for
refugee children living with non-parental caregivers. As BRYCS
develops new materials on refugee parenting, refugees and
foster care, and separated refugee children, among other topics,
they will be added to the collection.
